ELKS COSTUME PARTY RAISES FUNDS FOR KIDS WITH CANCER
More than 110 people from the Mission Viejo-Saddleback Valley Elks Lodge raised $4,000 for the Orange County Foundation for Oncology Children and Families during a costume party and silent auction charity event. The event featured a donated dinner by Outback Steakhouse of Laguna Hills and music by Wayne Pulcini. The event organizer was Stephanie Bongartz with the help of Pat Ohman, Laura Lumley, Basia Bills, Gail Patti, Jack and Sandy Jacobs and Irene Romero.
MORMON YOUTH GROUP DONATES TO HOSPITAL
Girls from the Church of Latter-day Saints Young Women’s service group have donated 67 beanies to newborns at Mission Hospital.
The girls include Laguna Niguel residents Adrienne Taylor, a junior at Dana Hills High School; Andrea Taylor, a sophomore at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School; Giselle Herrera, a freshman at San Juan Hills High School; and Karla Herrera, a seventh grader at Marco Forster Middle School. The group also included San Juan Capistrano residents Laisha Correa, a freshman at Capistrano Valley High School, and Cindy Barragan, a senior at San Clemente High School.
CHRISTMAS TREE DRIVE STARTS NOV. 25
Mission Viejo resident Rudy Padrol is launching his annual Christmas tree drive to help community groups raise funds for their causes.
Each charity earns a percentage of each tree sold, depending on its size and species. He will kick off his drive on Nov. 25 and keep sales open until Dec. 24. The lot at 25402 Marguerite Parkway, in front of Saddleback Lanes in Mission Viejo, will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Organizations that will benefit from the sales include: Arenado Baseball, Mission Viejo Activities Committee, Patriots and Paws, Meat Head Movers, Rotary Club of Mission Viejo Foundation, Iwa Jima Memorial West and Abilities Unlimited.
WATER DISTRICT LEADER RECEIVES AWARD
Joone Lopez, Moulton Niguel Water District’s general manager, has been honored with the Coro Meaningful Impact Award, which recognizes those who are leading the way in the water industry.
The award came from the nonprofit group Coro Southern California during its seventh annual Water and Sustainability Conference in Los Angeles in honor of Lopez’s local, regional and statewide impact in the water industry. Lopez was selected for her empowering management style, innovative approach to public service and community engagement.
SHOP, FUNDRAISE AT THE OUTLETS
Mission San Juan Capistrano is holding a VIP Shopping Extravaganza event at the Outlets at San Clemente between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Dec. 5.
The $35 fundraising event includes discounts to 25 stores, a private catered lunch, wine and craft beer tasting, live entertainment and a chance to win prizes and gift cards; $25 will go to the mission. Following the fundraiser, the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Christmas at the Mission San Juan Capistrano will be held. For tickets, go to missionsjc.com.
